Biography

Lisa helps clients navigate conflict and family transitions in an effective, efficient, and dignified manner. Her practice includes all aspects of family law, estate and fiduciary litigation, civil litigation, and appeals. Whether high conflict, high profile, and high net worth, or straightforward and amicable, Lisa offers sound judgment, excellent instincts, and an ability to sensibly guide clients towards results that preserve their assets and protect their interests.

Lisa handles all types of family law cases, involving divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, domestic violence, property and business valuation and distribution, name and gender change actions, and preparation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Lisa is passionate about helping clients obtain the best possible outcome for their children. She is regularly appointed by the court to serve as guardian ad litem for children in contested custody cases in the District of Columbia, and is on the Montgomery County Circuit Court children’s Best Interest Attorney roster. Lisa is a trained family law mediator able to assist spouses and parents reach an efficient and fair resolution of their family law disputes outside of the courtroom. Lisa is known for her skill and creative problem solving in domestic relations cases that present the most difficult challenges, such as intrafamily abuse and violence, criminal justice and child protective system involvement, substance use and addiction, and dissipation and concealment of assets.

Lisa devotes much of her practice to estate and fiduciary litigation. Lisa represents trustees, beneficiaries, heirs, and other interested parties in disputes involving trusts, estates, and guardianships. Lisa is an experienced appellate attorney and has briefed and argued dozens of cases in federal and state appellate courts. Lisa’s practice during the past twenty years has included civil and commercial litigation, and estate planning, and she is available to represent clients needing legal assistance in these areas.

Lisa is an active member of the legal community and is committed to providing pro bono legal services to those with reduced access to lawyers. She currently serves as a board member on the D.C. Bar Attorney Client Arbitration Board. Lisa regularly volunteers at the D.C. Superior Court Family Court Self-Help Center, and as a family law mentor at the D.C. Bar Advice and Referral Clinic. Lisa trains attorneys seeking volunteer family law opportunities through the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program. She is a member of the Women’s Bar Associations of D.C. and Maryland.
